New Player Information
Maine Woods Baseball
Maine Woods Baseball is an independent, wood bat league for players aged 45 and older. It consists of two age divisions: Maine Woods 45 (45+) and Maine Woods 60 (55+).
League Information:
Games: MW45 plays 15 regular season games plus playoffs. MW60 plays 12+ games including playoffs. Most games are played on Kelley Field in Bath, Maine. Once or twice a year games are played at The Ballpark in Old Orchard Beach.
Fees: League fees are $225 for MW45, $175 for MW60, and $275 if playing both. Players need to provide their own bats, helmets, and pants, but the league will provide jerseys and a hat.
Bats: Bats must conform to the following Maine Woods Baseball bat regulations.
1. All bats must be solid wood, single-unit construction and cannot be hollow.
2. Composite bats with wood barrels and handles of a different composition or reinforced carbon fiber polymers are prohibited.
3. Laminated wood bats and AXE Bats are approved as long as they meet the 100% wood and non-hollow specs above.
4. BAUM bats are approved for use.
Rules: The league plays by standard baseball rules with a few modifications. Specific modifications can be found on Rules section of the league's website.
Drafting: New players joining the league cannot always be guaranteed a roster spot. The league tries to place all new players on a team, but it is dependent on the number of roster spots available in a given season or a particular skill a player possesses. Players are encouraged to attend indoor workouts in April to increase their chances of being drafted.
Season: The season begins late April or early May and ends in late August. Teams play games primarily on Sunday but do occasionally play on Saturday. Doubleheaders are played only when necessary. In late June, July, and early August, MW45 plays one weekday game on either Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday when necessary to reschedule rained out weekend games. Weekend games start at 9am, 12pm, or 3pm and weekday games start at 6pm, and are 7 innings in length.
Attendance: Players are not required to play every game, but they must attend 50% of scheduled games to qualify for the playoffs.
