Message From The New League President
As the recently elected President of Maine Woods Baseball, I wanted to say thank you to the managers and board members for showing confidence in me. I look forward to furthering the dream of the league…..”play baseball forever”. Now that I’m President, I’ve been thinking about what the role of President should be for our league. Basically, I think the President's role is to focus on the league as a whole and to let the managers continue to do what they do best……take care of the needs of their team. That’s not to say I will be hands off. I will certainly lend my support and advice to the managers when necessary, but my main focus will always be on the league as a whole. Keep in mind when I say league, I am not only referring to Maine Woods 45. I also will be concentrating my efforts on Maine Woods 60, Fall Ball and the Sunrise Base Ball Club of Brunswick. Collectively we make-up Maine Woods Baseball, Midcoast Maine’s premier adult baseball league.
One of my goals will be to make sure Maine Woods Baseball remains strong, competitive and enjoyable. One way to do that is to continue to attract quality players with a love for the game of baseball. That is where I think my strength as President will benefit the league most. I have experience with player recruiting, social media exposure and team and league organizing. Not to mention I just plain love this league and take it as a personal challenge to make sure it is here for years to come. Another goal of mine is to be accessible to the individual players and be your voice at the league meetings if you have questions or concerns that are not being addressed by your manager.
Thank you for your time and attention and don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions, thoughts or general comments.
President, Maine Woods Baseball

As always, the league will purchase medical and liability insurance, This year, we also will require every player to sign a standard waiver form. This is a standard among all adult baseball leagues and the form is pretty common. If you would like to preview it, please go to the website to view.
Finally, we are working diligently to post a schedule of games this summer so you all can plan vacations, etc. It is challenging to accomplish it early because the recreation departments must take into consideration the Babe Ruth and Legion schedules too. We will get it posted as early in April as we can.

A lot happened in 2016 for Maine Woods Baseball. We were in a magazine and on television. We also saw the continued success of Maine Woods 60, Fall Ball and the beginnings of a very exciting vintage base ball squad. If you want to play baseball this is the place to be.
The final game of the fall league and final game of the season for Maine Woods Baseball was this past weekend. We started playing in March and finished in October....I would say there is plenty of baseball to be played in this league! Have a safe and healthy off season.
The fall season kicked off without a hitch and enjoyed beautiful weather this past weekend. The Mountaineers and the Coastals go at it again on Sunday, Oct. 2nd at 10AM. If you are interested email Mike at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The 2016 Maine Woods 45 and Maine Woods 60 seasons came to a ceremonial end this past weekend. Thank you Sebasco Estates for hosting this great event.
After nine years in the league, five trips to the Championship dance and three rings...Dave Brandt has graciously retired from the league. Known for his great smile and fun dugout presence, he also locked down 3rd Base for two championship seasons with the Cardinals and one for the Pirates. The consummate ball player, Dave will be missed around Kelly Field next year. Best of luck on the golf links from all your Maine Woods baseball friends.
The 2016 season ended with a well played hard fought battle at Kelley Field in Bath. In the end the Giants won 4 to 2 and where crowned Maine Woods 45 Champions. Time to start planning how to knock the Giants off the top.
More exposure for Maine Woods Baseball! Jeff Hogan, a photo journalist from WGME 13 stopped by to do a story on our league this past weekend. The story should run this coming Sunday. I will keep you posted.
Some great Over 60 baseball is being played in Midcoast Maine. We have video footage to prove it.
